Sediment-Wave Interactions in the Baltic Sea (SWIBS)

The project "Sediment-Wave Interactions in the Baltic Sea (SWIBS)" aims to simulate wave-driven sediment transport in the practically tide-free shallow waters of the Baltic Sea. This will allow for a better understanding of the interaction between sediment and the water column and the prediction of sediment redistribution, particularly in shipping channels. To achieve this, the hydrodynamic model GETM will be coupled with the wave model WaveWatch-III and extended with a sediment transport module. Continuously collected field data and satellite remote sensing data will help validate the model simulations. In addition to coupling the models and planning and conducting the simulations, the project will primarily focus on analyzing and interpreting the results, ultimately publishing them and presenting them at national and international conferences.
