For our IT infrastructure: IT skills are required

Without IT skills and expertise, nothing works in the modern workplace.

The IOW  provides researchers with a strong IT department that ensures a stable and secure IT infrastructure and also handles central research data management tasks. In close cooperation with our research departments, our IT specialists take the latest developments in computer science into account, for example when it comes to marine science databases and public access to measurement data.

Specific areas of application are:

• Expansion and operation of the institute’s network and connection to other data networks
• Management and optimisation of the server infrastructure and central IT resources
• Administration and improvement of research data bases and their respective research applications
• Support for employees on all IT matters

Depending on the specific tasks involved, computer specialists may sometimes find themselves working at sea rather than on land.
