This project aims to improve accessibility, integration, and reuse of long-term marine biodiversity data collected by the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW). Although IOW maintains high-quality, standards-compliant datasets on phytoplankton, zooplankton, and macrozoobenthos, current data dissemination via multiple agencies leads to fragmented data flows, loss of provenance metadata, and inconsistencies between dataset versions, limiting their usability. To address these challenges, the project aims to configure the GBIF Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT) to convert local data resources to the Darwin Core (DwC) standard, creating the prerequisites (together with the registration of IOW as a GBIF publisher) for direct publication to international platforms such as OBIS and GBIF. This will preserve complete metadata, ensure proper attribution of data creators, and establish a streamlined data flow that avoids duplication and version decoupling. In parallel to the technical implementation, the project further includes stakeholder engagement. While IPT configuration and DwC mapping will enable standardized data publication, a workshop with key partners (e.g. BSH, BfN, ICES) will support the restructuring of data flows in line with contractual requirements. Outputs include reusable IPT templates and best-practice guidelines. Overall, the project provides a scalable blueprint for improved biodiversity data mobilization within NFDI4Biodiversity and beyond.
