Our institute building is located directly on the Warnemünde seafront. Working at IOW means enjoying the sound of the sea and fresh air right on your doorstep. As a marine research institute, we regularly conduct research at sea: our research vessel Elisabeth Mann Borgese is in operation for around 200 days each year. Beyond the maritime setting, we are committed to providing an excellent working environment where our staff can thrive at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde.

  • As a public-law foundation, IOW follows the collective agreement for public sector employees of the German federal states (TV-L).

  • We offer family-friendly and flexible working conditions to support a healthy work–life balance.
Both working from home and remote working are possible at IOW.

  • Our commitment to equal opportunities has been recognized with the “Total E-Quality” award four times.

  • We also provide targeted health programmes and ergonomic workplaces.
