Expertise

Postdoctoral researcher within the DAM mission projects "Coastal Futures II" (www.coastalfutures.de) and "PrimePrevention" (www.marextreme.de/primeprevention).

Personal expertise in coastal oceanography, specifically:

  • Estuarine circulation, Total Exchange Flow
  • Estuarine salt mixing
  • Numerical simulations of realistic coastal water bodies using GETM (www.getm.eu)
  • One-dimensional, numerical turbulence simulations using GOTM (gotm.net)

My current work focuses on the potential development of the current and future oxygen availability in coastal water bodies along the Baltic Sea coast of Mecklenburg Western Pomerania, in particular the Warnow river estuary and Greifswald Bay. Special emphasis is put on the influence of physical drivers such as vertical density stratification and estuarine circulation, which can be affected by dredging measures and summer heatwaves. To this end, I make use of both, high-resolved numerical simulations of the respective water bodies as well as observational data.

My past work mainly revolved around the interdependence of estuarine circulation and salt mixing in a general sense as well as salt mixing processes in the tidal Elbe estuary.

Sea-going Experience:

  • 2025: RV Skagerak; Skagerrak
  • 2024: FK Littorina; German Bight and Elbe estuary, Germany
  • 2023: RV Meteor; Namibian and Angolan upwelling systems, South Atlantic
  • 2022: RV Elisabeth Mann Borgese; Western, central, and northern Baltic Sea
